News: Lord Sonny The Unifier Blends Gritty Rock N Roll With Psych/Punk Touches On New Tune

Written by: Jen Dan

Brooklyn-located rock ‘n’ roll outfit Lord Sonny the Unifier is led by veteran NYC musician Greg Jiritano.

Lord Sonny the Unifier released their debut full length, FINAL NOTICE!, last year where Jiritano was joined by Carmine Covelli on drums, Tyler Wood on keyboards, and Derek Nievergelt on bass to create the album.

Jiritano has now followed up that LP with (All My Friends Live) Underground, a gritty, NYC-steeped single.

This track will appear on the band’s upcoming 4-song EP, titled All New Information. The EP is expected to drop on November 13th.

(All My Friends Live) Underground continues the act’s penchant for 1970s-era street-style rock with storytelling lyrics, psychedelic, punk, and funk touches, and Jiritano’s impassioned vocal delivery. This wouldn’t sound out of place in a, well, yes, an NYC underground club at the height of ‘70s.

The number also features guest vocals from Amy Gordon, and was created with the musicians Billy Smollen (bass), Derek Swink (drums), and Jon Caplan (piano, organ). Jiritano gives some insight into the cut, explaining, (All My Friends Live) Underground is a song about iconoclasts and outsiders who find their group of freaks, or Tribe in the shadows and underbelly, outside the conventions of society. It’s a calling to join us and leave behind what society has embraced as the norms and the acceptable, the well-trod path above. Leave the trivialities being thrust upon us since birth and join our Tribe and rediscover there the truths that will enrich you and not those who suck your energy in order to enrich themselves.”

Keep up with Lord Sonny the Unifier
