Canadian folk/alt-rock artist D.G. Adams has unveiled the lyrically pointed Dangerous, the first single off his upcoming album Nexxt!.

Adams’ trenchant and socio-politically targeted lyrics hit the bull’s-eye on Dangerous, even though he wrote it pre-pandemic. That’s because there was plenty going wrong before the coronovirus hit, including environmental destruction and societal incivility that, per Adams, [was] “caused by the current POTUS and his flunkies. Then came Covid-19 and suddenly the song seemed so apropos, and releasing it became much more urgent.”

Against gentle guitar strum, and a winding, yet fiery electric guitar line, a wistful and weary Adams, backed by vocals from Anna Katarina of Rumor Mill, sings these sadly astute lyrics:

What are we going to do?
When lies are truth
And truth is fake
And dangerous.
What are we going to do?
When leaders are straw
And saints are ridiculed
And dangerous
Just pray
And shout
But don’t you forget
To cast the devil out
Cast the devil out
Cos this ain’t no joke
The road it ends here
Just wilderness after this
And dangerous.
Do you have children?
Or sweet sweet grandchildren?
It’s their world very soon
And dangerous
So pray
And shout
But don’t you forget
To cast that devil out
Cast that devil out
(Solo)
Ya pray
And shout
But don’t you forget
To cast the devil out
Cast the devil out!
(Cast the devil out
Make no mistake
Cast him out)
