New retro-futurist electronic artist S+C+A+R+R remains anonymous at the time of this writing, but his entrancing music is spotlighted on his recent debut double A-side release via Cinq7.

White Lies and flipside What Do You Need? pay beautiful homage to French house music. S+C+A+R+R enlisted the production talents of The Dø ‘s Dan Levy for the 2-song record and the quality shows.

Lush synths, burbling globular electronics, and S+C+A+R+R’s smooth, slightly processed vocals run through White Lies. The sonic spirit is buoyant, but the lyrics are definitely bittersweet (“Don’t trust anyone / especially me”).

At the beginning of What Do You Need?, airy synths aim for the sky, billowing forth, yet also tempered by low-key electronic pattering. S+C+A+R+R’s lightly mechanized vocals float through the track while the synths slowly rise and the tune breaks into a true dance beat.

As the artist states in that track, “This is only just the start”… and the future looks bright for S+C+A+R+R with the latest news being that a song of his is featured in Netflix’s upcoming film I Lost My Body.
