Experimental electronic artist Malvae, who comes from the Netherlands, astounds with an emotional expressive and atmospheric electronic single, How It Hurts, featuring the spectacular vocals of Esther Veen.
Malvae is an exploratory musician and producer who samples sounds he finds from all over the world and then shapes and incorporates into his songs. It’s an ear-catching style that is exemplified by the breathtaking and bittersweet How It Hurts.
Esther Veen’s keening and airy vocal phrases and blips flit around the subdued electronic number like bright fireflies flickering in the vespertine hours. Veen’s vocals are riveting, but Lauv also brings in shadowy male vocal support at times to balance her radiance, as well as moth-like fluttering percussion, quickly twisting electronic notes, and a rhythmic beat.
