Every week we will be featuring The Sweet Five! What’s The Sweet Five you may ask? Well I’ll drop you five sweet songs that you should listen to once a week, that will help you get over your mid-week slump and set sail towards the ever-nearing weekend! Ready? Okay!
The Lumineers – Dead Sea
I have my girlfriend to thank who heard this one while at work. This is a Indie-Folk track with plenty of soul. Despite the deep undertones, this song has a somewhat lifting tempo mixed with unusual vocals that make this one stand out. I’ve quickly gone from liking to obsessing over this.
Lana Del Rey – Yayo
So I am a little late aboard the Lana Del Rey fan bandwagon – but there’s room for more, right? I only got around to getting to her stuff in the last week after hearing her music almost everywhere. “Yayo” stands out the most for me on the Paradise EP because she’s stripped back (the song, not her clothes) and that somehow puts more emotion in to this soft, slow track than heard in the others.
Ha Ha Tonka – Lonely Fortunes
Ha Ha Tonka aren’t exactly winning the award for best band name – but their music sure makes up for everything. The lyrics to this one have a great personal attachment that you can share with someone special. Also, never doubt a track with some good ol’ banjo playin’. This is honest music.
Gabrielle Aplin – Puzzle Piece
“Puzzle Piece” is sung beautifully. I think this is easily one of those mood changing songs that’ll have a sourpuss smile. So sweet, so talented is Gabrielle Aplin. At the tender age of just twenty, she has the world at her feet blowing her kisses. There is a lot of enjoyment in her music. Pure enjoyment.
Counting Crows – Omaha
To end this week, I want it on a brilliant high note. I love the Counting Crows, especially this one. There is a haunting beauty to this song. A song written with a sweet harmony and a sweet heart. I need not say too much about this classic.
