LA-based singer-songwriter Sophie Bom brings the glow of expectant motherhood to her new debut album Housewife. Personal narratives that describe a musically overlooked demographic abound on the catchy and engaging LP.
Bom is known for writing songs for big names like Britney Spears and Kendrick Lamar, but she steps into her own on Housewife. She recorded the album while pregnant and has now brought an introspective to upbeat musical baby into the world.
Lead single and opening track Kimono Mix starts it all off with a heartfelt mission statement: “I’m gonna turn this house / into a home.”
The story-telling song commences with low-key piano notes and Bom’s light, processed vocal twists. A dawn of shining synths, a touch of horns, and supple bass line rise along with Bom’s brighter vocals.
Be sure to take a listen to the rest of the David Greenbaum-produced (Beck, Robyn, Jenny Lewis) album to follow the continuing story of Sophie Bom.
