Say hello to Johnny Stranger, not the name of an individual music artist, but a rock-based project founded by singer-songwriter Peter Anthony. The band has been on hold for a whole decade, but is back this year with a string of singles, including the latest one, the rousing The Warlock.
The track just dropped near the end of September and showcases Johnny Stranger’s potent rock sound with incorporates blues and psychedelic touches. The Warlock pushes forward with emphatic drums, sharp guitar lines, and Anthony’s robust vocals.
The fictional storytelling lyrics reference the trial of a male witch put on the stand in colonial Salem, with the twist that he’s actually guilty. The meaning behind The Warlock is deep, focusing on the idea of breaking away from narrow-minded people that try to dominate and judge us (like at a witch trial where the ‘jurors’ already have a guilty verdict in store for the accused, whether they are truly guilty or not!).
Johnny Stranger have much more to say and play, and will be doing so on their upcoming fifth album Valkyrie. Keep an ear out for the LP when it releases via Shark Attack Records!
Keep up with Johnny Stranger HERE
