Alt-pop act Saticöy dropped their deeply personal single Nice to Know a couple months back and they’ve now released a thoughtful, yet spirited video to accompany the track.
Nice to Know is an exploration of grief and the loneliness that follows after a loved one passes from this earthly sphere. Specifically written about lead singer Derek Long’s father, who died in 2007, the song is also meant to comfort those who are left behind.
The emotional song is full of heartfelt and yearning vocal harmonies supported by echoed, pulsating beats and shimmering, floating synths, like a fervent hymn lifted to the skies above.
The video, directed by Michael Arter, begins with the somberness and remembrance of a wake, but then cuts to a younger member of the gathering who flees the heavy scene and honors the deceased in her own way – as a celebration of a life.
Shedding her all-black outfit and surrounded by her friends, she carries the ashes around on a whirlwind and joyous journey by the ocean, before scattering the ashes in the water. A period of melancholic reflection follows around a campfire, where a longing for the past is put to rest with a final goodbye…
