Los Angeles native and singer-songwriter/ukuleleist Jessica Gerhardt has been immersed in music her whole life, writing songs at the tender age of eight and working in a theater program called The Virginia Avenue Project.
She began playing the ukulele when she was fifteen after she received one as a gift and kicked off performances at open mic nights for high school students. While in college, she joined the band Just Orange while also continuing to write songs.
After college she returned to California and launched her music career with 2014’s Words Like Rainfall EP under the moniker Feronia, a collaborative project with producer Patrick Doyle and their musician friends.
Gerhardt’s breakthrough came with her acclaimed cover of Emmylou Harris’s Little Bird under the name Feronia, on the tribute LP To Emmylou.
After stepping back from the music scene for a bit, Gerhardt is back and creating music using her own name. The recent reflective, but mesmerizing, and lyrics-driven track Be My Hands just received a hypnotizing accompanying video.
The video spotlights the meaning behind the lyrics, about the innate tension that is present at the start of a relationship – the excitement, nervousness, and anticipation of the unknown path that has yet to develop.
