California-raised Miya Folick grew up in Orange County, but moved to New York for a short time to attend NYU. Instead of focusing on her studies, she wandered around the city, taking it all in. She then returned to her roots, learned how to play guitar, and forged a musical path that has taken her from the studio to the stage – and to much acclaim.
The alt-pop artist dropped her single Stop Talking two weeks ago and it’s a vivid and up-tempo number. Its bouncy beat, crisp percussion, and shining notes never sit still, and neither does Folick’s sweetly airy exclamations.
Folick has released the Give It To Me EP to raves from sites like Stereogum and Refinery 29 and has toured alongside Kate Nash, Chairlift, and Sleigh Bells. She also spent some time in the fashion world, modeling for Levi’s Song + Style denim campaign.
Her latest venture is a debut album titled Premonitions, which is set to arrive on October 26th via Interscope and Terrible Records.
