Los Angeles-based alternative rock band Beachwood Coyotes has unleashed an ear-catching new tune, Discipline, that changes the trajectory of their melodic rock/pop sound.
Before Jason Nott (vocals, guitar) formed Beachwood Coyotes, he’d been the guitarist in a band since the age of sixteen. After years of touring across the US and living in the grimier section of Los Angeles, Jason has now poured himself into this newer endeavor with fervor. He’s supported by bassist Drew Smith, drummer Bryan King, and Canadian guitar wiz Yan Clermont.
Beachwood Coyotes debuted their EP titled Scrubby last year to critical acclaim. Rock and pop collide on Beachwood Coyotes’ tracks, but the band has now gone in a different direction with Discipline and an upcoming second single. Enlisting Austen Moret as producer, Moret has blended the act’s pop/rock sensibilities with an electronic touch.
With the theme of learning how to grow as we age, the lyrics-centered Discipline contrasts Jason’s emotive vocals with cooler-tone harmonies. A kinetic drumbeat rhythm smashes into sweetly sweeping synth lines and bright xylophone-like notes. It’s a heady mix that showcases the band’s versatility and willingness to explore new sonic territory.
