Luke Hall and Joey Colando of American folk-pop/rock duo Kidd Bayou may reside in Los Angeles, but their roots are planted firmly in their native Oregon and Chicago, respectively. They have released their vivid debut tune, “Gold”, as this new collaboration.
Kidd Bayou is the result of Hall and Colando’s need to keep creating music outside of their individual bands. Hall was in the act Dayplayer, has produced music for other bands, and has worked on solo project Last Home. Colando previously played in folk band Meekos & Me.
Bittersweet and melodic “Gold” is shaped from the folk-pop/rock mold. Guest singer Lisa Rono wraps her vocals around the downcast to uplifting lyrics to craft a layered and harmony-filled single. A measured, emphatic beat and acoustic guitar strum on the verses give way to ever-stronger rhythms on the chorus sections that push the number from folky reflection to vivid rock collision.
