Los Angeles-based indie garage rock band Bird Concerns gives a fresh twist to the rock ‘n’ roll template by blending classic and current styles to winning effect. The act’s latest engaging number, The Monster, follows up the glowingly received Oh Well.
The four-piece of Marcus Buser (bass, vocals), Travis Meador (guitar, vocals), Jake Sucher (guitar, vocals), and Cooper Wolken (drums, vocals) are all CalArts students who are taking this journey together on the rock ‘n’ roll path. They bring sweet vocal harmonies, winding guitar interplay, and driving, drum-set tempos to their music.
The Monster, which was engineered by Theo Karon (Mavis Staples, Angel Olsen), showcases the all of the above and includes gritty guitar lines and a message of acceptance. As Buser puts it, “The Monster is inspired by my own struggles with depression, anxiety, and misplaced guilt. It’s a song about learning to accept yourself and in turn give acceptance to others.”
