SONG REVIEW: SYNTH-POP/AMBIENT DUO BY AN ION EMITS GENTLY ETHEREAL & DYNAMICALLY UPLIFTING SINGLE AUTRE VIE

Synth-pop and ambient duo By An Ion is based in Los Angeles, producing modern alternative music that is steeped in dreamy melodies and harmonies.  Ray Aguilar and Alex Gonzales just dropped their latest spellbinding single, Autre Vie, ahead of the much-anticipated Violet Sky EP.

Aguilar and Gonzales found out about their strong musical bond while working in the studio for different electronic acts.  Their union as By An Ion showcases their sonic chemistry, from the running current of synth pads, reverb, and contrasting vocals from both artists, to the occasional use of more abrasive electronic drums and fiery guitar lines.

The gently ethereal to dynamically uplifting Autre Vie (‘other life’ in French) is an atmospheric number that expands with spacey ambient reverb, twinkling synths wash, echoed percussion, a sporadic, sharp drum beat, and angelically airy vocals.  The end of the song reels to the sky with vibrantly scintillating guitar lines.

Autre Vie is a wonderful introduction for the upcoming Violet Sky EP, which is being mastered by Pete Maher (Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, The Killers).  So float away with By An Ion on a lush and beautiful cloud of nostalgia and wonderment…
