LA-based electronic dance music artist Justin Jay is making a name for himself in the tech/deep house field, with support from luminaries like Pete Tong, Disclosure and Claude VonStroke.
Jay’s 2016 single What Do You Want received almost 3 million Spotify streams and new tune Can’t Hang, which he released on his own label Fantastic Voyage, should surpass this achievement easily. Can’t Hang is a catchy and breezily upbeat hybrid house number that adds a dash of funk and soul to the laid-back mix.
A vocoder-disguised Jay sing-talks some pretty downbeat lyrics, but his melancholic sentiments are buoyed by bright woodwind-like warble, crisply crackling percussion, a peppily bouncing beat, and the thought that sometimes you need to lean on someone else to get through the tough times.
Jay reveals that Can’t Hang is, “one of the first songs I wrote and sang. It came out of me at a time where I wasn’t exactly on cloud nine… It’s been crazy times. These days, I frequently find myself getting overwhelmed, stressed out, or disenchanted about things. It’s easy to get negative and divisive, but that’s where I think music can be so powerful and important. It brings people together and makes us feel good. That’s what this song’s about for me.”
