It’s been quite some time since I’ve shared anything from Onça de Asas. I’m a little late to the show getting this new song titled At The Movies posted, and he’s even released the three track Hidden Intentions EP that somehow slipped past me until now. I’m embedding that project below, because it’s definitely worth a listen.
On At The Movies, the Argentinian based artist takes you through a synthy trip through a distorted atmosphere. I really love how Onça de Asas made this song into some sort of digital ballad. The robotic vocals sound distant and lost within the layers of swirling waves, but at some point the the instrumental takes a soaring turn that really compliments the chorus. It adds a boost of confidence to the “sorry that it took so long for me to sing you this song…” Considering how cold and jarring At The Movies sounds when it first starts, it’s a nice surprise to experience a real emotion building over the length of the song.
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve listened through this track trying to think of how to put my thoughts on the song into words and I keep hearing new sounds layered in the production. It makes each play through a little more enjoyable than the last by picking out those little hidden details. I’m looking forward to what Onca de Asas has in mind for his next release.
