Most will recognize KOPPS due to the name attached to Joywave’s massive single, Tongues. I first became addicted to their sound through their edgy, high on ’90s influence debut Fuck Jams EP. The project featured strong singles like Mourning Sex and L.A. Lights and a outstanding cover of Alice DeeJay’s Better Off Alone. I’ll just come out and say it. KOPPS (much like Joywave) makes contemporary music for those of us who grew up in the ’90s. They’re doing genre blending, modern production mixed with nostalgia. Count me in!
The Rochester duo have been pretty quiet as of late. They had the single titled Strange Boy, but that was at least a year ago. Anywho, it’s great to hear some new music from KOPPS, and Thermometer is a great sounding track to kick off what will hopefully be a series of new releases. A new EP maybe? A full length album? I can only hope. Until whenever news breaks, I’ll be taking advantage of the free download and regularly listening to Thermometer.
