Trails and Ways – Taj Mahal (Jorge Ben Cover)
Trails and Ways
have been mighty busy lately. They’ve had so many new songs, remixes, and videos over the last few weeks that I haven’t been able to keep up with them all. The band’s latest offering is this cover of Jorge Ben’s “Taj Mahal”. If I hadn’t been told that this was a cover track, I would have easily believed this to be a Trails and Ways original song. The lyrics fit in with the rest of the band’s own music. Then again… Trails and Ways have done what they usually do whenever they record a cover. They completely make it their own.
“j’s original is a retelling of the classic indian love story that built the Taj Mahal, and we do a retelling of the retelling, rewriting the verses to english ones about the 16th c. queer love story of Sufi poet Shah Hussain and Madho Lal
to honor and help give voice to real present-day South Asian folks and their love stories, we’re asking anybody who digs the song to check out & donate a bit to Trikone, a group founded in the Bay Area that provides a space, advocacy and support for LGBTQ South Asian folks.“
Keep up with Trails and Ways
