You can't ignore the release of a new installment to Common's H.E.R. series. The original "I Used To Love H.E.R." is arguably the greatest single ever in the history of hip-hop. At least I'll argue in its defense all day.

A lot of bloggers believe this to be the first follow-up to the original in 19 years. Clearly, these other guys aren't huge Common fans like me. Let's see here, there was The Roots' "Act Too (Love Of My Life)" with Common, Erykah Badu and Common's "Love Of My Life (An Ode To Hip-Hop)", and even The Game's "Angel" with Common. There have also been other mentions of H.E.R. over the years, plus many dedications from other rappers.

"The Next Chapter" only features one actual verse from Common, along with a handful of shout-outs, but J.Period's production is the real standout here. The beat, samples, and scratches are strictly aimed to the true hip-hop heads.

The track will be featured on J.Period's upcoming mixtape, Rage Is Back, set to drop February 12th. The mixtape is a companion piece with Adam Mansbach's '80s graffiti era novel of the same title. The book is getting fantastic reviews on Amazon and is definitely going on my "to read" list.
